In 2008, The Quad Cities formed a local chapter of the Honor Flight Network, called Honor Flight of the Quad Cities (HFQC).  The purpose of HFQC is to fly America’s veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honoring their sacrifices.

Top priority is given to WWII and Korean War Era Veterans, or any veterans with a terminal illness. The intention is to honor our local and regional heroes who were selfless in their military duty with a free trip to visit their memorials. Veterans within a 75 mile radius of the Quad Cities are encouraged to apply. The program operates on donations from organizations and individuals. Volunteers of all kinds plan and coordinate the flight events, and special guardians are trained to help escort the veterans on flight days.

All honor flights depart on a non-stop charter from the Quad City International Airport to Washington, D.C., and return the same evening at approximately 10:00 p.m.

Charities

When we launched The Back Road Music Festival, we knew it would significantly change our area!  After all, how could it not when you bring the best of Country Music together, with thousands of fans in the heart of corn country?  We could have stopped right there and been satisfied however, we quickly realized that TBRMF could also be a vehicle for other positive change, namely some truly great and local charities.  Since there is a history of service to our country in our families and so many from our home town, we wanted to give something back to our Veterans. For the past 7 years, TBRMF has partnered with Shave for the Brave to help our Veterans go on a trip of a lifetime through Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.  Through Honor Flight, Veterans of WWII, Korea & Vietnam, receive the opportunity to visit their memorials in Washington D.C. at absolutely NO COST to our Veterans.  This trip is not only a long overdue thank you, but also provides emotional therapy and closure for many of our Veterans.  Over these past seven years, Shave for the Brave & TBRMF  have helped raise over $50,000 dollars for HFQC and therefore, been a part of sending an entire airliner of Veterans on this trip.

We want this tradition to continue so we hope everyone will get behind “Beards & Braids at Back Road!”  At this year's The Back Road Music Festival, 20 volunteers will go out and raise money in exchange for shaving their beards, their heads or cutting their long braids, with the result of every dollar raised directly going to and benefiting our Veterans via Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.  We here at TBRMF hope you will support this cause by donating to one of our participants and/or donating any amount at the shaving tent during the festival!  God Bless our Veterans!
